Lamp of Murmuur – Saturnian Bloodstorm

Three years after the release of “The Burning Spears of Crimson Agony” the once mysterious Lamp of Murmuur manifest into something far wide reaching with a new logo and direction of artwork with latest release Saturnian Bloodstorm

From the raw lo-fi approach of the band’s beginnings to the gothic and melodic overtones trailed on recent times this latest album sees a much more fervorous new declaration of strength and vigor, the albums sound and production too has been upgraded immeasurably, as someone who has been fortunate enough to see Lamp of Murmuur live I still appreciate the underground dungeon synth tones that are incorporated with bleak shrills but with this latest release there is an element of awe as to just how much of a transformation there has been in all elements.

The impact is immediate with album opener ‘Conqueror Beyond the Frenzied Fog’ right through to the nine minute title track ‘Saturnian Bloodstorm’

Bursts sonic alongside ice-cold mid tempo sections laden with atmospheric soundscapes add undeniable earworms that will be played over and over again. I feel that with  Saturnian Bloodstorm that not only have Lamp of Murmuur managed to elevate the underground following they have enjoyed but will no doubt bring new fans into doing a deep dive into their discography, which I for one couldn’t be happier. I don’t often like surprises but this has been a thunderingly pleasant one
